Commercial relationships

Disclosure

PickBadger is not an independent publication. It runs paid advertising campaigns for a named list of portfolio brands, publishes additional Amazon-listed product pages under a standard affiliate disclosure, and earns commission on purchases made through its links. Each page states which of those two disclosures applies.

Last updated

PickBadger has a paid business relationship with every portfolio brand in the table below and earns a commission on purchases made through links on this site. Amazon-listed products outside that table use the standard affiliate disclosure on their own pages.

What the relationship is

Two commercial arrangements appear on this site. They are not the same, and the page tells you which one applies:

  • Paid advertising. PickBadger is paid to plan and run advertising campaigns for the portfolio brands in the table. That is a commercial engagement well beyond an affiliate link, and a material connection that has to be disclosed under FTC guidance and equivalent rules elsewhere. Those reviews use the stronger disclosure, naming the brand.
  • Affiliate commission. Outbound links to a store or to Amazon may earn PickBadger a commission if you buy. Those links carry rel="sponsored nofollow" and open in a new tab. Amazon-catalog pages that are not portfolio brands use this disclosure only.

In both cases the disclosure renders above the first link on the page rather than in the footer.

What we do not claim

Two lines appeared in early design work for PickBadger and appear nowhere on the live site: chosen independently by our editors and we buy or borrow every unit we test. Both are false here, and a false independence claim on a page with a paid relationship behind it is precisely what regulators act on.

What makes a review on a site like this defensible is not a claim of independence. It is three things that can be checked: the source and date of every figure, a limitations column that is never shorter than the strengths column, and a disclosure you cannot miss.

Scores and verdicts

No review here carries a score, and no page reprints an Amazon star rating. A rating implies an assessment, so a review PickBadger has not assessed shows a dash in the score field and its structured data emits no rating at all.

The brands

Paid relationships, by category

If a portfolio brand is added or a relationship ends, this table and the affected review pages are updated on the same day. The site also publishes spec-sourced pages for physical products listed on Amazon that are not in this table; those pages use the standard affiliate disclosure and a button that opens the Amazon product page.

Prices

Every price shown carries the date it was checked. Prices move, and an undated price on an affiliate page is a small lie that compounds. If the date beside a price looks old, treat the figure as stale and use the link to check the current one.

Product imagery

Product images come from each brand’s own website, never from Amazon or another retailer, and are shown to identify the item being discussed. Each is set on this site’s plate: a plain ground in the site’s palette or, where the maker’s photograph has a scene of its own, the whole photograph framed on that ground. Image rights remain with their respective owners, and PickBadger does not present manufacturer photography as its own. Where no image from the brand’s own site has been found and checked yet, the page shows a placeholder plate and its caption says so.
